Travel from Exeter to Igls, a picturesque Tyrolean village that hides some fantastic facilities. Family friendly.
Just 15 km (less than 10 miles) from Innsbruck, the village of Igls lies on a scenic plateau, commanding views over the Inn Valley. Nursery slopes lie close to the village. While the blue and red runs on the Patscherkofel are a excellent for beginners and intermediates. In addition the whole area lift pass includes the Stubai glacier, which is reached by a 30 mins bus ride. Igls is most inviting for the non-skier. Enjoy the scenic tranquility while following one of the many cleared footpaths; watch the ski-jumping on Bergisel or take the Patscherkofel cable car to join skiing friends for lunch. Innsbruck is also close at hand with museums, art galleries, shops and the Hofburg Palace to name but a few.
Having hosted two winter Olympics (1964 & 1976) Igls is world famous for it's winter sports. not to mention it's excellent facilities. A lot of effort is taken to keep the pistes in excellent condition and the après ski is relaxed and enjoyable in the bars and cafés around the village. Other activities include an excellent 3 km (2 mile) natural toboggan run, ridding in the back of professional pilotted bobsleigh down the Olympic bobseligh run.
Ski kindergarten is available for the over 3's. And creche facilities are available. Igls still hosts a number of international events every year so it's best to book well in advance to avoid disappointment.
